Worth knowing

A PIN only stays valid while you stay compliant

The tax compliance status PIN lets a buyer check your standing with SARS live. It is not a certificate you file away. The moment a return goes outstanding or a balance falls overdue, your status flips to non-compliant and whoever is checking sees exactly that.

Every request includes

The blocker found first.

A status request that simply gets refused helps nobody. We find what is actually blocking it, and tell you what it will take to clear.

01

Returns filed before we ask.

SARS will not issue a compliant status while a return is outstanding, so the filing comes first and the request second.

lock

Sent where it needs to go.

The PIN and supporting documents packaged the way your buyer, your bank or the department has asked for them.

What a buyer usually checks

Four things, almost every time

Tax compliance status

Verified live with SARS using your PIN.

CIPC standing

Whether your annual returns are up to date and the company is not facing deregistration.

B-BBEE level

An affidavit for an exempted micro enterprise, or a verification certificate above R10 million turnover.

Banking details

A confirmation letter from your bank, matched to the name on the CIPC register.

Directors

A disclosure certificate showing who the directors and shareholders actually are.

Common questions

What replaced the tax clearance certificate?

The tax compliance status PIN. Instead of a paper certificate, SARS issues a PIN that lets whoever you give it to check your status directly and in real time. It stays valid only while you remain compliant.

Why does SARS say I am non-compliant?

Almost always one of four things: a return is outstanding, a balance is overdue, your registered particulars are out of date, or you are not registered for a tax type you should be. Each is fixable, and we start by finding out which one it is.

How long does it take?

If everything is already in order a PIN comes through quickly. If something is blocking it, the timeline is however long it takes to file the outstanding returns or arrange the balance. We tell you which situation you are in before you commit to anything.

Can I get good standing while I owe SARS money?

Often yes. A formal payment arrangement with SARS, kept up to date, can support a compliant status even where a balance is outstanding. It has to be arranged properly rather than just paid at intervals.
