Worth knowing
Most new contractors start at Grade 1
CIDB Grade 1 is the entry level on the contractor register. It lets a new contractor bid for the smallest public sector construction contracts. Higher grades depend on your track record and finances, so most new construction companies start at Grade 1.

Common questions
What is CIDB?
The Construction Industry Development Board keeps the national register of contractors. Public sector clients use it to check that a contractor is registered at the right grade for a contract.
What is COIDA?
The Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act. Employers register with the Compensation Fund, and construction tenders often ask for a letter of good standing to show it.
My company is already registered. Can you still help?
Yes. We can do the CIDB, CSD and COIDA steps on their own. Tell us what you already have and we will quote for the rest.
Are you part of CIDB?
No. Essa & Company is an independent private business service provider. We prepare and submit applications on your behalf, but we are not CIPC, SARS, CIDB, the CSD or any government department.
